Track construction

Due to its high compressive strength, low water absorption, good thermal insulation properties and rot-proof properties, Styrodur® is also used as a frost protection layer in the construction of roads and railway tracks. This not only prevents frost damage, but also reduces maintenance costs for traffic routes.

An insulating material must fulfil similar requirements to those for frost protection in road and track construction in the construction of artificial ice rinks. The physical properties and advantages of Styrodur make it the ideal insulation material for this application.
